Special Olympics Hawaii offers year-round sports training and athletic competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. More than 1,800 athletes, from around the state, benefit from participation in the program.
Special Olympics athletes are men, women, boys and girls with intellectual disabilities. They are like other athletes. They train and compete. They learn to win and to lose. They strive to do their best. They inspire us.
Our Organization does not receive funding from the federal government, the Kennedy Foundation, nor the Aloha United Way agency. All the money raised in Hawaii, stays in Hawaii to support our program in the areas of competition, sports and training, development, outreach, and family and public education. Special Olympics Hawaii strives to meet its goal to ensure more than 85% of funds are used for program delivery for the athletes. All contributions to Special Olympics Hawaii are tax deductible.
As Special Olympics does not charge its athletes to train and compete in its activities, it becomes a challenge to provide everyone with a chance to benefit from Special Olympics. There are a number of ways you can help make this happen.
Special Olympics Hawaii currently serves only 11% of the eligible athletes in Hawaii. We depend on your support to provide individuals the opportunity to get out on the playing field and experience the joys that participation in sports can provide. Your assistance enables us to reach out to more and more athletes. Donate your unused cell phones today!
